Which powerbank is allowed on a plane?

When traveling, you naturally want to be able to charge your devices on the go. But which powerbank are you actually allowed to bring on a plane? Grixx offers reliable powerbanks that comply with international airline regulations. In this article, you will read exactly which powerbank you can bring on a plane, what to look out for, and why Grixx powerbanks are a safe choice for traveling.

Bringing a powerbank on a plane: the rules

Bringing a powerbank on a plane is allowed, provided you meet a few conditions. The most important rule is: powerbanks are only allowed in carry-on luggage. Bringing a powerbank in checked baggage is prohibited because lithium-ion batteries carry risks such as overheating or fire.

Additionally, the following capacity guidelines apply:

  • Up to 100 Wh (Watt-hour): allowed without notification
  • 100–160 Wh: only allowed with prior approval
  • Above 160 Wh: not allowed

How do you know if your powerbank is allowed?

The capacity of a powerbank is usually indicated in mAh (milliampere-hour), while airlines calculate in Wh (Watt-hour). You can easily convert the value:
Wh = (mAh ÷ 1000) × 3.7V
A 20,000 mAh powerbank comes out to approximately 74 Wh – so it can be brought on board. All Grixx powerbanks remain under 100 Wh and are therefore allowed on planes.

Which powerbank is allowed on a plane?

All Grixx powerbanks fall under the 100 Wh limit and comply with international airline regulations. Therefore, you do not need approval and can bring them in your carry-on without any problems.
